How publishing actually works

No application form, no trial period. Here's the whole process, start to finish.

Step 1

Pitch it

Tell us your idea, roughly how long it'll run, and what category it fits. A sentence is plenty to start.

Step 2

Write it

Write it your way. We check it's suitable and appropriate to publish — we don't rewrite your voice.

Step 3

It's yours, published

Tagged, catalogued, and added to your own writer profile — permanently attributed to you.

After your first article

Publishing once is the hard part. Here's what changes once you have.

1

Your profile goes live

Your byline links to a proper writer page — bio, article count, and read stats, all in one place.

2

Pitching gets faster

We already know your writing and what you're about — the second pitch takes minutes, not a full introduction.

3

You start climbing the leaderboard

Every piece you publish moves you up the writers' ranking — visible on the Writers page.

4

You get first look at new categories

As In The Know grows into new sections, our existing writers get first refusal before we open it up publicly.

Why this exists

I began 'In The Know' with one word in mind — accessibility. As an amateur writer myself, I understand publishing work can be scary. With this platform, I'm aiming to break down that misconception. Whether your work is a grand examination of the socio-economic shifts in cultural capital or just an account of your day out at the museum, I want to personally extend a welcome to you to get your article published in 'In The Know'. Whilst I won't be explicitly editing your work, I am responsible for supervising and publishing the articles whilst ensuring all work is suitable and appropriate.

Pitch a piece, or just say hello

Tell us what you want to write about — genre, rough length, whatever you've got.

What happens next

You send it. We take a look.

Right now that's a small, one-person editorial check — just making sure everything's appropriate to publish, never rewriting your voice. As the team grows, so will this. We reply to every message, usually within a few days.
